Itinerary: Rainbow Mountain
The adventure begins very early at 04:30 am, and then we go by car for an average of 3 hours south of Cusco. Then we will go to the picturesque town of Pitumarca, south of the city of Cusco. Here we enjoy a delicious Ondean breakfast in local Restaurant and we will buy some of the necessary items for our walk, such as water, snacks, etc. Afterwards, we will continue on the road until we reach a dirt road that crosses the mountains and passes through traditional villages and fertile valleys. After this short stop we continue our trip where we observe the multicolored landscapes and the crops that are mixed between the mysterious and snow-capped mountains. See Andean animals such as the llama, alpaca, sheep, vicuñas and also the deep valleys. If it is a clear day, we will be able to see the snowy Ausangate, which is the highest in the province of Cusco at 6,384 masl or 20,945 feet. We arrive at the picturesque town of Chillca which is our starting point for the trek. We will start trekking from 4,350 masl (14,271 ft) and it will take around 1.5 hours to reach the top. This walk is short and gradual, but due to the height we will go slowly and enjoy the view of valleys and mountains, and also herds of llamas and alpacas. We will finish the climb when we reach the top of Cerro Colorado, which is 4,980 meters above sea level (16,338 feet). This incredible mountain has beautiful colors including red, orange, yellow, green and purple which are various minerals. You have the option to climb another 50 meters (164 feet) up to take photos with a panoramic view, and when we are ready we will return the same way. We will go down for an average of 1 hour and we will arrive at the vehicle to return to Cusco. On the way we will have lunch at the local restaurant, and continue to Cusco where we will drop you off at your hotel around 4:30 p.m.
