Cusco Ancestral & Machu Picchu and South Valley
The Cusco Ancestral & Machu Picchu and South Valley tour begins with your arrival and reception in Cusco for hotel check-in and acclimatization.
The next morning features a guided city tour visiting Qorikancha, Sacsayhuamán, and the surrounding ruins, followed by a third day exploring the Sacred Valley’s Pisac market and Ollantaytambo fortress before boarding the train to Aguas Calientes.
On the fourth day, you will enjoy a 2.5-hour guided tour of the Machu Picchu citadel before heading back.
The trip continues with an excursion to the South Valley to explore Tipón, Pikillacta, and the Andahuaylillas church, concluding on the final day with a smooth transfer back to the airport for your flight.
Itinerary
Day 1: Lima - Cusco
When you arrive in the City of Cusco, our staff from Peruvian Paths and Adventures will be waiting for you at the airport and will then take you to your chosen hotel. At the hotel, you will be greeted with the typical coca tea for acclimatization.
Our staff will help you check in and give you all the information and recommendations, such as banks, restaurants, exchange houses, and others. Finally, you will have a free afternoon to rest and acclimatize.
Optional: Presentation of typical Andean music and dances at the Qosqo Native Art Centre (6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.). The entrance ticket is included in the package.

Day 2: City Tour in Cusco
Breakfast at the Hotel
After a delicious breakfast at the hotel, we will pick you up at 8:00 a.m. and take a bus to begin the tour of the city of Cusco.
Our first stop will be at the Main Square of Cusco, also known as the Plaza de Armas. Continuing with the tour, we will visit the Temple of Koricancha, or Temple of the Sun, where we can appreciate the very fine stonework created by the Incas.
Then, we will take our bus and leave the city of Cusco to visit the archaeological site of Sacsayhuaman, where every year in June, the Sun Festival, Inti Raymi, is held during the Winter Solstice in the Hemisphere. It has a strategic location that offers visitors a complete view of Cusco City.
We will also visit the Archaeological Centers of Qenqo, Tambomachay, and Pucapucara.
We will return to the City of Cusco at approximately 1:00 p.m.

Day 3: Cusco - Sacred Valley - Machu Picchu
Breakfast at the Hotel
Pick up from your hotel at 8:00 a.m. We will make our first stop at the Andean Animal Refuge, where we will find llamas, alpacas, condors, and pumas.
Continuing our tour, we will visit the most important archaeological sites in the Sacred Valley. Here, we will have a guided tour exploring the sites for around one hour. This place is best known for having the largest Inca cemetery in the area and also has religious temples, agricultural terraces, and irrigation systems.
Then, we will go to the colonial town of Pisac, where we will visit a silverware workshop and learn about the process of making silver. We will also walk through the traditional markets, where you can find many handmade crafts. Here, we will have time to buy souvenirs.
We will then go to the town of Urubamba, where we will stop at a restaurant to have a buffet lunch.
To complete our day’s tour, we will visit the Archaeological Centre of Ollantaytambo, which is another important site in the Sacred Valley, with temples and gardens. This place was also the site of one of the greatest battles between the Spaniards and the Incas.
Finally, we will go to the Ollantaytambo train station to take the train to the town of Aguas Calientes. Upon our arrival, a cozy hotel with all the comforts will be waiting for us.
After the tour, we will go to the train station, where we will take the train from Ollantaytambo through the picturesque Sacred Valley to Aguas Calientes Town. Depending on the departure time of the train, you should always arrive 30 minutes before departure.
Upon our arrival at the train station, our staff will be waiting for us to take us to our hotel.

Day 4: Machu Picchu - Cusco
Breakfast at the Hotel
After a delicious breakfast at your hotel, you will meet your guide and take the 25-minute bus ride up to Machu Picchu.
You will have an approximately 2-hour and 30-minute tour with your guide, where we will visit the incredible architecture and mysterious temples left by the Incas.
A professional English-speaking guide will help us understand the sophisticated ideas and technology of this highly advanced culture.
The suggested time to descend from Machu Picchu to the town of Aguas Calientes is 1:00 p.m., depending on the departure time of the train. It is recommended to arrive 30 minutes before the train’s departure.

- Upon arrival at the station you will be waiting for a staff of the company to transfer to their respective hotels in Cusco Overnight in Cusco.

Day 5: Cusco - South Valley - Cusco
Breakfast at the Hotel
After breakfast at 8:00 a.m., our transport will leave the hotel, and we will head to the south side of Cusco, arriving at the town of Tipón and then visiting its archaeological complex.
This site shows the impressive hydraulic engineering of the Incas, as it has fountains and channels that are still in use today, as well as the distribution of water to each Inca terrace.
After our guided tour of these Inca constructions, we will continue our excursion and visit the pre-Inca site of Pikillacta, a satellite city of the Wari Culture. This site is a different example of ancient urban planning. The guide will share the history of this site with you, and from there, we will also have beautiful views of the surrounding valley.
Finally, we will visit the town of Andahuaylillas and two colonial temples. San Pedro Church is known as “the Sistine Chapel of America”, and the Colonial Temple of Huaro displays Baroque paintings from the 16th and 17th centuries of the Cusqueña school.
Finishing our tour, we will return to the city of Cusco at approximately 2:00 p.m.

Vistadome Train
Our price includes train tickets in the Expedition train, however, if you would like to upgrade your return train from Aguas Calientes to Cusco to the Vistadome train the price is an additional $45 USD per person. Please note that because of the train schedule this option is only available for your return train, and not for the train from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes.
Entrance Ticket to Huayna Picchu Mountain
If you are interested in climbing Huayna Picchu Mountain, the mountain overlooking Machu Picchu inca city, there is an additional fee of USD $70.00 per person for us to buy your entrance ticket. Spaces are limited, so please let us know when booking whether you would like to hike Huayna Picchu mountain and we will reserve it for you.

Buffet lunch at the Sanctuary Lodge Restaurant
It is located in the luxurious Sanctuary Lodge hotel (former Orient Express); It is the only one that is located, very close to the entrance to the Inca Citadel of Machu Picchu. The price is an additional USD $45.00 per person.
