Itinerary

Inti Raymi (Festival of the Sun) - Full Day

At 8:00 a.m., our staff will pick you up from your hotel and take you to the first stop of the day, where we will meet the group and our professional guide. The Inti Raymi ceremony takes place in three different locations.

1Qorikancha or Temple of the Sun, the beginning of the Inti Raymi route, with the ceremony called «Salute to the Sun». This first part begins with the sound of the pututos and the entrance of the acllas, musicians, and dancers, followed by the arrival of the Inca. The first rituals of the ceremony take place here. Approximate duration: 1 hour.

2Plaza Mayor of Cusco or Huaqaypata, the second point of celebration of Inti Raymi. Here, the «Meeting of the Times and Coca Leaf Ceremony» takes place, where the Inca and his entourage meet on the great ushnu or ceremonial stage. This second part begins with the entrance of the musicians, followed by the full presentation. The Inca then heads toward the main altar installed in the center of the plaza and begins with a greeting to the Sun God. The provincial mayor of Cusco then meets with the Inca and presents him with a quipu as a symbol of organization, work, and commitment. Finally, the Inca and the Qoya walk around the Main Square before continuing to the final stage of the ceremony, Sacsayhuamán.

3Esplanade of Sacsayhuamán, the third epicenter of Inti Raymi and the main ceremony, where most of the staging of Inti Raymi takes place. It begins with the entrance of the Qoya and the Inca, accompanied by dances, music, and chants. The central ceremony then begins with the appearance of the leaders of the four regions, who announce the current state of their territories. Finally, the Inca begins the offering ritual, sacrificing a llama in honor of the Sun God. Approximate duration: 2 hours.

*Let us remember that this ceremony is carried out in Quechua, the original and ancestral language of the Incas.
