The Humantay Lake Full Day Tour is undoubtedly one of the best day hikes in Peru. It will take you high into the mountains to contemplate an exquisite alpine landscape and the traditional Inca way of life. We will ascend to this majestic lagoon, located at 4,200 meters above sea level, while learning about its sacred importance in Inca mythology.

Itinerary

Humantay Lake – Full Day Tour

Our hotel pick-up starts between 4:30 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. After a 3-hour drive, enjoying the views of the lush Apurímac River Valley, we’ll arrive in the town of Mollepata for breakfast.

After breakfast, we’ll continue our journey for another hour and a half by car. The road we’ll take is a dirt track until we reach the community of Soraypampa, the starting point of the trail, where we’ll prepare for an incredible hike.

Located at 3,900 meters (12,792 feet) above sea level, we’ll observe beautiful landscapes and the imposing, snow-capped Salkantay Mountain. There, the guide will give us a moment to get ready, use the restrooms, and warm up.

The route begins with a gentle slope and becomes steeper as we approach the lagoon. We’ll begin our 2-kilometer (1.3-mile) hike. The trail is uphill and will take us between one and a half and two hours.

During the hike, we’ll admire a panorama of snow-capped mountains, breathtaking natural landscapes, and a great diversity of flora and fauna until we reach Humantay Lagoon, located at 4,200 meters (13,776 feet) above sea level.

Humantay Lagoon, turquoise in color due to the minerals found at its bottom, is fed by mountain glaciers and is considered a jewel of nature and a sacred lagoon. Take your time to stroll, relax, and breathe in the fresh mountain air.

After enjoying the tranquility of Humantay Lagoon, we’ll begin a two-hour descent back to the starting point (Soraypampa).

From there, we’ll take our transport to Mollepata to enjoy a delicious buffet lunch at a local restaurant.

Afterward, prepare for the two-hour drive back to the city of Cusco. We’ll arrive at the hotel around 6:00 p.m.

Inca trail Eddy and his team helped me with everything so I could do the Inca trail. On the evening before they went to visit my hostel and explained me in detail all I need to know about the Inca trail. I even got a beautiful shirt with the Inca trail on as a souvenir/gift. The hiking group was very mixed and great group. I have massive respect for all the porters/cooks and guides on the team. The Inca trail has a very big history and very beautiful Inca constructions. The nature is amazing . On my return to Cusco, Edy offered me a car ride to the hostel to pick up my belongings and drove me to the airport. It really made it practical and safe for me. An amazing Lares Trek I recently went on a hiking/yoga with Peruvian Path and Adventures and it was an amazing experience. The Lares Trek was beautiful, peaceful and had the perfect amount of challenging components. It was amazing to walk through the villages and not be around tons of people.
