The Maras Moray Chinchero Half Day Tour combines history, culture, and unique landscapes in the Sacred Valley. In Moray, visitors discover the impressive circular terraces, considered ancient Inca agricultural laboratories where Andean products were experimented with in different microclimates. The tour then continues to the Maras Salt Mines, a network of over 3,000 salt ponds exploited since pre-Inca times, offering spectacular views and the opportunity to learn about one of the world’s most traditional salt extraction processes.

This Maras Moray Chinchero Half Day Tour is ideal for travelers who want to discover some of the Sacred Valley’s most fascinating cultural and archaeological attractions in just half a day.

Itinerary

Tour Chinchero Maras Moray & Salt Mines - Half Day

We begin by picking you up at your hotel at 8:00 a.m. and start our tour northeast of the city of Cusco. During the journey, we will admire breathtaking landscapes such as the snow-capped mountains of Salkantay and Verónica, as well as the plains of Maras, which provide much of the food for the people of Cusco.

First, we will visit the Chinchero Archaeological Site and its Inca textile workshops, where we will observe the traditional process of alpaca wool production: washing, spinning, natural dyeing, and weaving until it is transformed into fine and colorful garments.

Then, we will continue to the town of Maras, where you can appreciate the magnificent colonial architecture of its buildings. We will also enjoy spectacular views of the Vilcanota mountain range, including snow-capped peaks such as Chicón and La Verónica.

Next, we will visit Moray, a complex of circular agricultural terraces shaped like an amphitheater and considered an Inca agricultural laboratory for the study of microclimates and crops. Also known as a center for experimentation and research on agricultural products during the Inca Empire, the site consists of circular terraces reaching approximately 150 meters in depth.

Finally, we will visit the Maras Salt Mines, made up of more than 3,200 salt pans that have been exploited since Inca times and are still worked by local people today. This is the same salt that the Incas used for human consumption.

We will end our tour at approximately 2:00 p.m., and our transportation will take you back to your hotel in Cusco.

Inca trail Eddy and his team helped me with everything so I could do the Inca trail. On the evening before they went to visit my hostel and explained me in detail all I need to know about the Inca trail. I even got a beautiful shirt with the Inca trail on as a souvenir/gift. The hiking group was very mixed and great group. I have massive respect for all the porters/cooks and guides on the team. The Inca trail has a very big history and very beautiful Inca constructions. The nature is amazing . On my return to Cusco, Edy offered me a car ride to the hostel to pick up my belongings and drove me to the airport. It really made it practical and safe for me. An amazing Lares Trek I recently went on a hiking/yoga with Peruvian Path and Adventures and it was an amazing experience. The Lares Trek was beautiful, peaceful and had the perfect amount of challenging components. It was amazing to walk through the villages and not be around tons of people. A True Peruvian Experience!! Edy is simply amazing!! I was on a yoga retreat that used Edy for the Lares Trek and Machu Picchu and they truly went above and beyond.
